Goals
We have developed this curriculum to meet the following goals:
- Flexibility of Materials. The online platform allows teachers to introduce the materials in whatever order they would like and to leave out whatever components of the Unit they find unhelpful.
- Clear and useful instruction of Latin Grammar, Syntax, and Vocabulary. Where possible we have focused on the rule rather than the exceptions. We have also prioritized the most common forms found in Latin. For example, the present and perfect tenses are taught in Unit 1 as they are the most common tenses in Latin.
- Creating a broader picture of the Roman empire to include depictions and voices of women, people of color, and enslaved people.
- Offering texts that show how wide the empire reached in time and space.
