This unit introduces you to new tenses, the use of adjectives in Latin, and several pronouns. By reading the Fabula Aeliae and the Litterae you will also begin to understand the religious customs of the Roman household as well as the role of enslaved people as members of the household. In the Fabula Aeliae you will see the importance of the Lares, the celebration of the Matronalia, and Sophronius' introduction to Christianity. The Litterae are adapted excerpts from Latin authors that depict religious practice in the home, customs regarding punishment of enslaved people, and an outside perspective on the Roman family.
